HOʻOKIPA
Welcome
Aloha kākou,
There are periods when life becomes very full.
Responsibilities accumulate. Decisions need to be made. Our attention moves between the people, work, commitments, and circumstances that require something from us. We can become so occupied with responding to what is immediately in front of us that, without necessarily realising it, we begin to move further away from the things that ordinarily give our lives direction.
Our instinct can be to respond by doing more.
More effort. More planning. Another solution. Another thing added to an already crowded field.
But more is not always what is required.
Sometimes the necessary movement is a return.
A return to pule. A return to the teachings. A return to ancestral relationship. A return to what is actually ours to do and what is not. A return to the practices through which we are able to see our lives clearly enough to recognise direction again.
Return to the foundation.
Not because the foundation removes everything that must be dealt with, but because it gives us somewhere firm from which to meet what is before us. |

KA PAPA — FOUNDATIONS
Foundations of Hawaiian Healing & Spirituality Begins Wednesday, 7 October 2026 | Online
This is why foundation matters.
Before we move deeply into individual practices, there are understandings upon which those practices stand. There are ways of observing, relating, praying, taking responsibility, and understanding our place that shape everything that follows.
Ka Papa is where we begin.
It is the foundational teaching pathway of Mana O Kahiko: a twelve-week live programme for those who want to enter the underlying teachings of Hawaiian healing and spirituality with greater depth, structure, and continuity.
Foundation does not mean elementary or unimportant. It means that which everything else must be able to stand upon.
For someone encountering this work for the first time, Ka Papa establishes that ground. For someone who has already encountered Hawaiian practices but recognises the need to understand more clearly what sits beneath them, it offers a return to the principles from which those practices arise.
Our next Ka Papa begins on Wednesday, 7 October and gathers online over twelve weeks.
Registration is now open. |

HOʻOPONOPONO HOʻŌLA WISDOM CARDS
Founder Release | First Edition
Returning to foundation does not only happen through formal periods of study.
It also happens in the ordinary rhythm of practice.
This understanding sits at the heart of the Hoʻoponopono Hoʻōla Wisdom Cards. The cards were created as a way of returning each day—to observation, to prayer, to responsibility, to pono, and to the teachings that help us recognise what requires our attention.
A card does not do the work for us. It gives us somewhere to begin. We draw, read, observe, and then carry the teaching into the way we meet the day before us.
The Founder Release | First Edition continues, and Hoʻōla decks are available through Mana O Kahiko. |

HE KUHIKUHI
Direction
Foundation is easy to overlook precisely because it is beneath everything else.
We notice the decisions that need to be made. We notice the problems requiring attention. We notice the responsibilities waiting for us. What we may not notice as readily is the condition from which we are meeting them.
This is why return is a practice.
We return to pule not because we have failed to remain there permanently, but because returning is part of the rhythm itself. We return to the teachings because familiarity can cause us to stop seeing what they are asking of us. We return to our ancestors because relationship requires tending. We return to what is ours to do because a crowded life can make everything appear equally important when it is not.
Foundation gives us a point of orientation.
From there, we can listen more carefully, distinguish what actually requires our attention, and move accordingly. |

A HUI HOU
Until We Meet Again
Perhaps the direction this week is not to add something else.
Perhaps it is simply to ask:
What do I need to return to?
For some, that return may happen through a daily practice already known. For others, it may be time to enter the foundations more deliberately and learn the teachings upon which the practices of Mana O Kahiko stand.
Whatever the form, the movement remains the same.
Return to foundation. Listen clearly. Recognise what is yours to do.
Then move in pono.
A hui hou,
Kumu Kawika Mana O Kahiko |
