NĀ MANA KAHIKO
A Three-Part Live Intensive
with Kumu Kawika
Akua · ʻAumākua · Poʻe Kahiko
Gods & Goddesses · Ancestral Guardians · Ancestors
The world was never empty.
Our ancestors recognised presence in the ocean, the mountain, the forest and the sky. They understood that human life unfolds among powers greater than ourselves—and within relationships that extend beyond what we can see.
They remembered genealogies. They told stories. They prayed, acknowledged, approached and gave thanks. They passed down ways of living in relationship with those powers.
What did they recognise? What have we forgotten?
And what changes when we begin to recognise those relationships in our own lives?
Nā Mana Kahiko is an invitation to enter deeply into these questions.
Across three live intensives, Kumu Kawika guides an exploration of gods and goddesses, ancestral guardians, and those who came before us. We enter through a distinctly Hawaiian lens, grounded in ancestral teaching, moʻolelo and lived relationship, while opening the exploration to the wider ways these questions touch cultures and peoples throughout the world.
Different traditions carry different names, genealogies and understandings. Each deserves to remain whole. Through that respect, we can explore the profound questions human beings have carried across generations: the nature of power, the presence of spirit, the meaning of guardianship, and our continuing relationship with the ancestors.
